Time TRAKKER Frequently Asked Questions & Update Info

Current Version is: 7.0.5a

Do not network your computer! The Time TRAKKER is designed to work  on "free-standing" computers; some program features may not work, and errors may occur.  Unless you have  "Administrative privileges" on your computer you may not be able to remove programs or install updates!

When attempting to install a Time TRAKKER update,  I receive a message that the Time TRAKKER is already running when it's not. How do I proceed? Restart Windows. Open the 'Control Panel', choose 'add/remove programs'; remove the 'old' version, then install the update from the desktop. Restart Windows again.

You should always restart Windows before you install a Time TRAKKER  update.

The Time TRAKKER program prints numbers instead of bar codes. How do I fix this? Open the 'Fonts' folder on the Control Panel of Windows. The first font should be 39251.TTF. If it is, simply 'restart Windows'; this will cause the font to be recognized by Windows and the bar codes will print. If not, reinstall the Time TRAKKER from the CD-Rom disk then follow this procedure.

How do I get  new students to print on the SHEARS electronic report? Open 'Edit Enrollment' and add the missing students' TDLR Permit numbers. The students will now appear when the report is printed.

How do I name the 'flash' drives so they will work with the Time TRAKKER?  Open 'My Computer' and plug one of the flash drives into a USB port. Do not open the drive! Should it open automatically, close it. Hover the mouse pointer over the flash drive icon, right click the mouse and choose 'Rename' from the options. In CAPS type "BACKUP" (without the quotes), press <Enter>. Replace that flash drive with the other and repeat this process, using  "ARCHIVE" as the name. Be sure to label the drives to avoid confusion. Failure to properly name the flash drives will keep them from recording the backup data.

Tweaks and Fixes - Latest Version  is 7.0.5a

While Version 7.0.5a corrects all of the following troubles, it will not correct any data errors that resulted

We show these troubles and fixes for historical reference only.

Version 7.0.0 & 7.0.1 - Four major changes to Time TRAKKER  (1) change the storage format of time from minutes to hours, 10ths and 100ths to eliminate small errors in display and calculation of clocked times.  (2) Revise 'Close Student Month' to reduce confusion regarding what to name the 'new' month,  and to keep users from attempting to close the wrong month. This new month is now selected  automatically by the program. A considerable reduction in code and a much cleaner looking screen id the result.  (3) Created a  Subroutine to allow global updating of hours edited in an 'old' month, removing the need to make corrections to 'previous' hours and 'Fieldtrip' hours on the 'Edit Enrollment' screen. (4) Provided the means to store 'Daily' backups and monthly Archives on flash drives. Most current production computers no longer provide a 3.5" floppy drive for backup purposes.  3.5" floppy backup is still available in the Time TRAKKER for the time being.

Version 7.0.2 - Added the TDLR Permit number to the Timecard printout - Requested by a TDLR inspector.  Password protect the printing of barcodes for security following reports of students printing unauthorized barcodes.

Version 7.0.2a - adjusted print size on Status screen Tardy List to allow longer names.  View/Print Timecards was reporting a student tardy on his/her SECOND clock-in instead of the first-corrected.

Version 7.0.2b - corrected calculation of new month in 'Close Student Month'...was attempting to create a 13th month after December instead of creating January. All other months were calculated correctly.  Password protected the Skill TRAKKER (F4  key). Removed incorrect code from 'View Timecards' which  caused program to abort when 'Continue' button was clicked

Version 7.0.2c - Changed 'View Skills' in Skill TRAKKER' to permit viewing a larger number of skills. The 'view' box was filling up. Multiple instances of a particular skill is now shown on one line with a notation of the number of skills. Changed all references to data paths to contain the complete data path to avoid program failures when routines could not locate necessary files. Added code to ''Over48' subroutine to insure hours for the preceding month have been converted to 10ths and 100ths when these hours might be needed for calculation of the current week's hours.

Version 7.0.2d - Was unable to restore files from 'flash' drives. Recoded to correct 'Transfer' and 'Restore Month'.  Streamlined code to load the Menu form, hopefully to make it easier to locate troubles when we can't duplicate the trouble a client is experiencing. Added a 'Convert-Hours' function to clear up discrepancies with tardy and beginning of day times resulting from minutes being confused with 10ths and 100ths of hours (several complaints of this). Removed command in the password module that turned off the clocking timer   unnecessarily, causes clock to stop; result of change in V. 7.0.2b to require password to enter the Skill TRAKKER. As the result of password protecting the 'Skill TRAKKER' in V.7.0.2b,  the F4 key turns off the clock on the Time TRAKKER causing ALL students to clock in & out at the same time so they lose their hours. To restart the clock, click ANY password protected task, then click the "cancel" button on the Password box; the clock will restart and "catch up" immediately.  A "Repaired" version will be available shortly. Call our office, if you need immediate help on this.

Version 7.0.2e-program aborts when student clocks out during 1st week of month (will clock out one student, then abort) - error in 'Over48' caused by not providing a full path back to preceding month.  FIXED! F4 key problem noted above is now fixed.

Version 7.0.2f -The Change, Add & Delete bug is fixed.  Change & Add, with respect to Fieldtrips, was adding extra hours, usually to 'Time Out' often causing a 'Numerical Overflow' error that kept you from fixing or deleting the session.

Version 7.0.3 - If  the Time TRAKKER starts with  VERY OLD MONTHS as the first months in the 'Select Student Month' directory list box, REMOVE ALL MONTHS EARLIER THAN JANUARY 2000 (Use the F8 key). Earlier months will no longer sort in the correct order! We made the decision to remove all "Y2K" bug code from this and all subsequent versions of  The Time TRAKKER.

Version 7.0.4,a,b - Oh, Boy! I really goofed on these updates. Please forgive me and install the Version 7.0.5 as soon as you receive it, else you may not be able to perform the 'close student month'. Seems like this sort of thing occurs every year along about now. Maybe it's the 'back to school' syndrome. Hope everyone has a great year.

Version 7.0.5 - fixed the mess just above in 7.0.4b. BTW, 7.0.4a really does work. Have a good year!

Version 7.0.5a - Corrects a problem with changing of passwords, specifically the first or Password #1. "Password Change" would not allow password #1 to be changed, only password #2.  Corrected a paging issue in "Print Time cards"; program would abort if the paging routine was called as the last punch was accessed.

Watch for an on-line Cosmetology Tutor to appear on this site shortly. This will provide means for students to practice  the State Board Exam from any computer with Web access! Very reasonably priced so that all may use, learn and enjoy!
